Working out Raja Ampat vacation cost comes down to three main lines: the yacht charter itself, flights to Sorong, and the marine park permit and other extras. The yacht is by far the largest, and it is quoted per night for the whole boat rather than per person.
What drives Raja Ampat vacation cost
Charter rates depend on the yacht's size, age, crew and how many cabins it carries, not on how many guests actually travel. A smaller phinisi with three or four cabins costs a fraction of a large expedition vessel with ten, so the biggest lever on your total cost is which class of yacht you choose, followed by how many nights you book.
Yacht charter rates on our board
Across the Raja Ampat yachts we work with, whole-boat nightly rates start from around US$1,750 and run up to around US$55,000, with the typical boat sitting close to US$10,000 a night. A smaller phinisi such as Jinggo Janggo sits at the lower end of that range, while large expedition yachts like Aqua Blu sit at the top. Most groups land somewhere in the middle, on phinisi in the US$6,000 to US$15,000 a night range, depending on cabins and finish.

Flights and getting to Sorong
Reaching Raja Ampat means flying to Sorong, usually via Jakarta or Makassar, which adds real time and cost on top of the charter itself. We do not quote flight prices here since they change constantly with season and airline, but budgeting a buffer day either side of your charter is worth it in case of delays. The marine park permit and other fees
Every guest needs a Raja Ampat marine park permit, paid locally and separate from the charter rate. We do not state a fixed figure here because permit fees change, but your quote will list it as its own line so you know exactly what it covers and whether your yacht arranges the paperwork. Extras that add to the total
Wine and spirits, scuba diving on yachts without their own dive programme, crew gratuities and, on some boats, airport transfers, all typically sit outside the base rate. Tiger Blue's rate card, for example, includes full board, soft drinks and snorkelling gear but excludes the marine park fee, wine and spirits, Starlink WiFi, PADI courses and gratuities, which is a fairly typical split across the fleet. How cost changes with group size
Because rates are whole-boat rather than per person, cost per guest falls sharply as your group grows to fill the cabins on board. Take a phinisi charging US$10,000 a night with five cabins: a couple using just one cabin pays the full rate for two people, while a group of ten filling every cabin splits the same nightly rate ten ways. This is also why a smaller yacht sometimes works out better value for a small group than a large one: an intimate boat like Alexa or Kayra, with one or four cabins, can suit a couple or a small family far more efficiently than a ten-cabin expedition vessel built for a much bigger group.
Timing your booking
Rates can shift with demand, particularly around peak months within the October to April season. Booking well ahead generally gives you the widest choice of yacht and dates, while late availability can sometimes bring a lower rate on a boat that would otherwise sail with empty cabins.
