Every yacht on our board quotes a whole-boat, per-night rate that covers the crew, meals, fuel and basic equipment, but almost none of them fold in the costs below. Treat the nightly rate as the base of the trip, then add roughly ten to twenty percent for a realistic total once these extras are counted, depending on how many national parks your route touches and how much you plan to drink, dive or fly.
Government and marine park fees
Komodo and Raja Ampat both charge national park and marine park entrance fees per guest, and the amount depends on your nationality, length of stay and how many park zones your route enters. We never quote a specific figure here because these fees change, sometimes with little notice, so your quote lists the current amount at the time you book rather than a fixed number we publish in advance. Some yachts include these fees in their rate and some do not, so it is one of the first things worth confirming when comparing boats.
Alcohol, WiFi and other onboard extras
Soft drinks, coffee and tea are included on almost every yacht, but wine, spirits and any specialist drinks are usually charged separately, either by consumption or a fixed package. Satellite WiFi, where a boat has it, is frequently an extra too, since the data itself costs the operator money per megabyte in remote water. These are the smallest of the extras in absolute terms but worth asking about if either matters to your trip.
Diving, courses and specialist gear
Snorkelling gear comes with almost every charter, but scuba diving beyond a boat's own dive programme, PADI courses, and specialist gear like nitrox or a dedicated dive guide are commonly priced separately. A boat with its own dive centre may include a set number of dives in the rate and charge for anything beyond that, while a boat without one will refer you to a local dive operation entirely outside the yacht's own pricing.
Flights, transfers and gratuities
Flights to Labuan Bajo or Sorong, and any connecting flights from your home country, sit entirely outside the boat rate, as does an airport transfer on some yachts, while others include it. Crew gratuities are customary rather than compulsory, but budgeting for them is standard practice on a private charter, since the crew's service is a large part of what makes the trip work. Special requests and celebrations
Requests outside a boat's standard offering, a birthday cake, a particular bottle for an anniversary, a private beach dinner arranged ashore, are usually possible on a private charter but almost always cost extra, since they mean the crew sourcing something beyond the standard provisioning run. None of this is unreasonable, and most yachts are glad to arrange it, but it is worth raising when you enquire rather than assuming it is bundled into the nightly rate.
