Bali itself is mostly a base for day charters around Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and the Gili islands. The multi-day private yacht charters people usually mean by "Indonesia yacht charter", the phinisi trips through Komodo National Park, depart from Labuan Bajo, about an hour's flight from Bali, not from Bali's own harbours.
Why serious yacht charters don't start in Bali
Bali's coastline faces open ocean on several sides and does not have the sheltered, island-studded waters that make a week aboard comfortable. Komodo National Park, by contrast, is a maze of bays and channels between Sumbawa and Flores, calm for most of the dry season and close enough together that you can visit several islands a day without long open-water crossings. That is where our fleet is based from roughly May to October, moving on to Raja Ampat for the rest of the year.
What you can do from Bali itself
Bali has a genuine day-charter and sunset-cruise market: smaller boats out to Nusa Penida for snorkelling, or short sails along the southern coast. These are worth booking locally in Bali and are a different product entirely from a whole-yacht, multi-night charter. If a week aboard a private phinisi with a full crew is what you actually want, treat Bali as your flight connection rather than your departure port.
Getting from Bali to Labuan Bajo
Direct flights connect Bali (Denpasar) to Labuan Bajo in around an hour, run by several domestic airlines multiple times a day. We suggest flying in the day before your charter starts, since flight delays are common in the wet shoulder months and a missed first night at sea is hard to get back. Book the Bali to Labuan Bajo flight for the morning if you can, which gives you a buffer for delays and still lets you board the yacht the same day if your charter starts that afternoon. Guests flying in from Australia, the US, the UK or Europe often prefer a full night in Bali first to recover from the long-haul leg before the shorter domestic hop, rather than trying to connect straight through on one long travel day.
Combining Bali with a Komodo charter
Many guests build a trip around both: a few days in Bali either side of a Komodo charter, treating the sailing as the centrepiece rather than a side trip. Some charters also extend west from Labuan Bajo toward Sumbawa, which sits directly between Bali and Komodo and lets a longer charter start closer to Bali by sea rather than purely by air.

Choosing the right boat for a Bali-based trip

Alternative departure points beyond Bali and Labuan Bajo
Bali and Labuan Bajo cover the vast majority of charters, but they are not the only options. Guests heading to Raja Ampat fly via Sorong instead, usually connecting through Jakarta or Makassar rather than Bali at all, since the two destinations sit on opposite sides of the archipelago and are rarely combined in a single trip. Knowing which port your chosen destination actually uses, before you book flights, avoids routing yourself through Bali unnecessarily on a Raja Ampat-bound trip.
